Premarital Counseling

welcome

Getting married is one of the most important and consequential decisions in life, and yet, while most couples spend quite a bit of time and money on wedding preparations, they tend not to prepare for and invest in the marriage.  That is understandable as most people get married during the phase known as “Romantic Love” where, aided by a powerful cocktail of “love hormones,” they feel very much in love and euphoric and believe their love will take care of any problems that arise.

Research shows that couples who take part in premarital counseling have approximately 30% less divorce occurrences than those who do not.

I am certified in Prepare/Enrich, a program that helps build healthy relationships and strong marriages. Early on, each partner completes an online inventory that identifies areas of strength and areas of growth for the relationship. Based on these, a report is generated and together we address specific topics, including communication, conflict resolution, relationship roles and expectations, and learn specific relationship skills through skill-building exercises. Couples also create a shared vision for their relationship.

I have over twenty years of experience working with couples and draw from several sources to make premarital counseling sessions enlightening and enriching.

I also work with couples who want to “take the next step” and come in with specific topics they want to address but do not care to follow a specific standardized program.
